Tulip Notecards Help Find a Cure for Breast Cancer
THE STORY BEHIND MY NOTECARD:
I was diagnosed with breast cancer in November of 2009 and had a successful mastectomy. I recently completed my chemotherapy, luckily with minimal side effects. I credit many of advancements in diagnosis and therapy to the educational and research efforts of the Susan G. Komen organization. I have signed up to walk in the "3-Day for the Cure," a 60-mile event held over 3 days in the Tampa area. It is a major fundraiser with about 3,000 participants and I must raise at least $2,300 before I can join in the walk.
One day while I was undergoing chemo, my daughter brought me a bunch of pink tulips. I noticed the front leaf curled down, echoing the pink breast cancer ribbon. At that moment, I decided to paint the tulip and use the image as a gentle reminder of the fight for the cure. These notecards are part of my fundraising, in addition to my personal page on 3-Day site: www.the3day.org. Look under DONATE and my name to reach my page.
The cards are $10 for a pack of 5 notecards and envelopes. My cost is $2 with $8 going directly to Susan G. Komen.
